AI Opportunity Assessment

A short, structured look at your business processes to establish where AI would create measurable value, what it would cost, and which opportunities are actually feasible with the data you have today.

The business problem

The loudest use case is rarely the best one

Ideas arrive from vendors, from conference talks and from whoever is most enthusiastic, and they get assessed on how interesting they sound rather than on what they are worth. Meanwhile the processes that genuinely consume money are unexamined because nobody finds them interesting. The result is investment in visible projects with modest returns while the expensive, boring processes carry on untouched.

What we do

Follow the cost

We map the processes that carry real cost, in people, cycle time or error rate, and test each against what AI can genuinely do today rather than what it is claimed to do. Every candidate gets scored on value, feasibility, data readiness and regulatory exposure, so the ranking survives challenge. You get a shortlist with indicative cost and effort per item, and an explicit list of what we ruled out and why, which is often the more useful half.

Common use cases

Common use cases

  • Decide where to spend a fixed AI budget across competing business units.
  • Test a longlist of proposed use cases before committing engineering effort to any of them.
  • Establish whether your data actually supports the ambitions in an existing roadmap.
  • Produce the evidence a finance function needs before approving a programme.

How we deliver

How we deliver

  1. Discover

Interviews and process mapping across the business units that carry the cost.

  2. Assess

Feasibility, data readiness, value and regulatory exposure scored per opportunity.

  3. Prioritize

A sequenced portfolio with dependencies, funding and named owners.

  4. Operationalize

Operating model, standards and review gates handed to the teams who will run them.

Security & governance

Security & governance

Strategy work sets the control environment everything downstream inherits: AI classification and inventory, the review gates a use case must pass before production, data residency and access boundaries, and the human oversight required at each risk tier. Where the EU AI Act or ISO/IEC 42001 applies, obligations are placed on the roadmap at the point they become binding rather than discovered late.

Why TeamExtension.ai

We cost it against delivery

An assessment that cannot say what something costs to build is half an answer. Because we deliver these systems, our effort estimates come from having built comparable things, and we will tell you when a use case is not worth it. Consultancies that do not build tend to produce longer shortlists.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

How long does an assessment take?
Four to six weeks for a single business unit, longer for a group-wide view. The variable is access: how quickly we can speak to process owners and see real data.
What do we need to provide?
Time with the people who own the processes, and visibility of the systems and data involved. We do not need a data extract to assess readiness, though we will want to see representative samples.
What if the answer is that AI is not the right tool?
Then we say so, and identify what is. That happens on a meaningful proportion of candidate use cases, and it is a cheaper answer to receive at assessment stage than after a build.
Can this lead directly into delivery?
Yes. Most clients use the assessment to scope a first bounded prototype, which we can then build. There is no obligation to, and the assessment is written to be actionable by anyone.
